Destined for Glory: A Monumental Journey to reach the UCL Final
“Kai Havertz who is around Ederson and Havertz scores for Chelsea, it's a royal blue moment” It was that moment when Chelsea scored in UCL final match.It was that moment when the Manchester City crowd was left speechless one never imagined that this Chelsea team would ever qualify for the final. In this blog, I am going to share the monumental journey to reach the UCL final.
The UEFA Champions League (UCL) is one of the best football competitions that captures all supporter's attention and passion more than others. For the glory, every team wants to win UCL. At this point, destinies are fulfilled and dreams come true if any team can win the Champions League trophy.
The Genesis
Every journey starts with a dream, a vision, or an extraordinary belief. Chelsea football club is no different in this regard as they also start every season to win the desirable Champions League trophy. The one aim that the players, coaches, and supporters all had in common was to leave their mark on football history so that people can always remember the name Chelsea Football Club. On 14 September 2020, The new season starts, Frank Lampard is the coach of Chelsea football club. From the transfer market, Frank the boss of Chelsea brought some wonderful players, they were Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, and Hakim Ziyech. They were the fresh signings of Stamford Bridge.
The Group stage
20 October 2020, The Blues face Europa League winner Sevilla in their Group E fixture after a summer spending spree of over 200 million pounds. The match was drawn between the Blues and Spanish giant Sevilla. After this match, we won the rest of the matches and we were the group-stage champions.
Round 0f 16
25 January 2021, Lampard was sacked. He successfully won the knockout stages but he was inconsistent in winning the premier league matches. “I took Chelsea home with me the minute I joined the club. I feel for this club deeply.
This is a special place for me,’’ said Frank Lampard during his farewell.
After this, Thomas Tuchel was the new manager of Chelsea football club. “We will build a team that nobody wants to play against,” said Thomas Tuchel. Then came the round of 16’s draw. Atletico Madrid was the opponent team in the round of 16. In the 20/21 season, Atletico Madrid was dominating the La Liga. In the 1st leg of the round of 16, Olivier Giroud scored a wonderful bicycle goal at the very last minute. At first, the referee disallowed the foal but after the VAR the goal was awarded.
In the 2nd leg, Chelsea played at home and Atletico played as a visiting team. Chelsea won that match (2-0). Actually, Chelsea were fully dominating Atletico Madrid on home ground. the first goal was scored by Hakim Ziyech with a counterattack and 2nd goal was scored by Emerson Palmieri as a substitute player. Chelsea qualified for the next round.
Quarter Final
The quarterfinal was between the two former Champions League winners Chelsea and FC Porto. In the First leg, Mason Mount scored his first Champions League goal, it was a wonderful full receive and finish in the top corner, and 2nd goal was a solo goal by a left-wing back player Ben Chilwell.
In the 2nd leg of the quarterfinal, only one goal was scored by the FC Porto player. It was a majestic bicycle kick.
Semi-final
The 13th time king of Europe, The Spanish Giant Real Madrid was the opponent of the Blues. Chelsea was the underdog in the UCL semi final.No one ever believed that Chelsea would win against Los Blancos.
In the first leg, The match was drawn. In 14 minutes, Christian Pulisic scored as the first player of the semi-final. A remarkable goal by Christian Pulisic beating the former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtua and two defenders. After 15 minutes, Los Blancos equalized through Karim Benzema. In the 2nd leg, Chelsea hosted Real Madrid as an opponent for the time. It was the first time Real Madrid had ever played at Stamford Bridge despite winning 19 European trophies. At first, Timo Werner scored a wonderful goal but it was disallowed because of offside position. Then, another counter-attack created by N’golo Kante who passed the ball to Kai Havertz Kai chipped but it was deflected by the post and returned to lucky Timo Werner who scored an easy goal for Chelsea. The Opposing team tried hard to Benzema shoot and head on target several times but the mighty goalkeeper Edouard Mendy saved all of the attacks. Again in 85 minutes, N’golo Kante created another chance, and that time Mason Mount scored to secure the UCL final.
THE FINAL FRONTIER
In the magnificence of the UEFA Champions League Final, Destiny was waiting for our team. The result of months and commitment, selflessness, and relentless pursuit of greatness. The moment the journey was near to lift the trophy, the wait was over. In The final Manchester City was the opponent team. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City was unstoppable no one ever imagined that Chelsea would beat Manchester City in the final. The match was going on in an equal way both teams were unstoppable. In the 42 minutes before half time, Mason Mount gave a through pass to Kai Havertz and Kai wonderfully finished it in style.
As a fan, I witnessed this entire journey to win the Champions trophy and feel proud as a fan of Chelsea Football Club.
